My Story
I've always been an artist
Even as I child I gravitated toward art. Instead of dolls I asked for notebooks. My closet was stuffed with art supplies. I dabbled in different mediums and art forms, learning and applying concepts from one to another.
In high school I stopped taking art classes. I thought it was time to “get serious” about my future, and focus on classes that could lead to a “real career”. I never really stopped making art, just slowed down. I relished in the homework that involved any amount of creativity, because it was a way to give myself permission to make art. Sometimes my teachers would ask if they could keep my art, which made me feel like I had made something worthwhile.
Discovering Watercolor
Then the pandemic happened, and I became a parent, and I desperately needed something to help feel like myself again. I picked up a paint brush, watched a lot of youtube tutorials, and started painting.
And I kept painting. Before I knew it, I had filled up an entire sketchbook. This was momentous for me. I realized I loved painting so much, and was so proud of what I created, that I wanted to keep going. So I filled more sketchbooks. I made lots of bad art. I allowed myself to play and experiment. My skills improved.
Building something more
Then in January of 2025, I was laid off from my “real” job in healthcare. I took some time to reflect on what I wanted to do next, what things in life brought me joy, and challenged my previous assumptions about what “work” could look like.
The answer was obvious. I wanted to paint. For days and weeks and months and years I wanted to make art and share it with the world. So that’s what I’m doing.
I feel so fortunate to be able to take this chance, to spend so much time doing what I love. I know there’s a rough road ahead of me, that it will take lots of time and effort and a bit of luck to make something I can live off of. So if you’ve made it this far, and you like what you see, please take a look at what I have to offer, and consider supporting me in this new journey.
Thank you!
